Lord’s Hill Tavern
The anchor of the Lord’s Hill Historic District is the property on the north side of Province Lake Road across from the Parade Ground. This building began as Isaac and Susannah Lord’s home, and the site of a Tavern they ran.
We at the Meeting House have a special neighborly fondness for the Tavern, but there is a ‘familial’ connection as well. Our Meeting House was, in a way, born in its rooms some 225 years ago. A committee of prominent men from nearby towns was engaged to mid-wife the birth, following a long and difficult labor, as various factions in town argued over the proper placement for the erection of a Meeting House as required by the town charter.
In the coming days we will be offering more information about the storied history of this special place, as we look forward to a discussion of its future!
